Our Story

We are a small (one person) company established since 2014 in Stockholm, Sweden. We specialize in fine handmade leather goods. Each of our items are carefully handcrafted by myself. Everything is measured, cut, saddle stitched and finished by hand.

The belief behind the brand is to create items in line with the Scandinavian heritage of simplistic form and unmatched quality. All items are characterised by a stylish, minimalist and timeless design without unnecessary details. Only the highest quality materials are used, and together with the handsewn saddle stitch this ensures a very long service life.

The name GRYPHLY and the griffin logo symbolizes that our products, just like the mythical animal, is strong, yet flexible and unique. But above all, the stamp is a quality mark for traditional craftsmanship.

Thank you for supporting handmade!

Cut and sewn by hand

Every product is hand pricked using pricking irons and hand sewn together using the traditional technique known as saddle stitching. Saddle stitching involves the use of two needles and an awl. As the awl puncture through the hole created by the pricking irons, the needles are passed through and pulled tight. There is a knot made by each pass-and-pull so that even if one thread comes apart, the rest of the stitching won’t unravel.

The result is a seam which is much stronger than the normal lock stitch used in sewing machines.

Premium leather

We use vegetable tanned leather from Tärnsjö Garveri in Sweden. Tärnsjö Garveri is an old tannery which produces the world’s finest vegetable tanned leather using hides from local Swedish farms.

The tannery is among the remaining 5% of tanning houses worldwide who still employ the tradition of vegetable tanning in favour of the more time and cost-efficient chrome excel method.

The aesthetic of vegetable tanned leather is unparalleled and the patina that it develops with use over time cannot be produced any other way. It is also the only way to produce premium leather of desired quality while at the same time respecting our environment.
